Industrial control systems (ICSs) across numerous industry verticals are increasingly migrating from serial communications to Internet Protocol (IP)-based communications as Operational Technology (OT) networks are integrated with Information Technology (IT) networks for enhanced performance, reliability, efficiencies and other operational advantages.
The convergence of OT and IT networks, however, has introduced new challenges and threats to ICSs. Because ICSs monitor and control physical processes in the real world, they have more stringent response requirements for determinism and real-time data transfer.

As factory floors become increasingly complex and incorporate sophisticated modules, the need for fool-proof safety systems also becomes imperative. Organizations have much to lose from operation of unprotected equipment, with the list starting from workers’ lives and going all the way to hefty reinvestments. Safety-rated controls are therefore an important part of the manufacturing industry, but due to the increasingly complex requirements, System Engineers must take into account certain factors when selecting such equipment.
The Magswitch range of magnets is a game changer, revolutionizing the metals industry, adding new capabilities in steel fabrication, handling and lifting. The improved productivity, safety and efficiency brought by the ability to switch the magnetic field on and off with a simple twist makes it way to all corners of the manufacturing chain.
Dubbed rugged, handy and a powerhouse, the SIMATIC IPT1000 is a top of the line industrial tablet PC from Siemens that keeps up with the requirements of the modern factory. The tablet features practical functionalities and high CPU throughput, comparable to several consumer-level notebooks, giving you a powerful assistant as you move across the plant floor.
Are you wondering if you need a UL 98, UL 489 or UL 508 disconnect for your application? At PCC’s 2018 Oktoberfest – Tap into Technology event on September 27, PCC premiered its new Robotic Machine Tending Solution- a collaborative robotics based automation system for loading and unloading raw material for production machines such as lathes, mills, press brakes, or even post processing applications like deburring or grinding.
Our new collaborative display features a ProFeeder by EasyRobotics, Universal-Robots UR-10 system, OnRobot collaborative gripper, Larco safety mat, pneumatic vise from AirVise, Parco T-slot aluminum framing, and a Siemens SIDOOR automatic door controller. In our demonstration we are showing how the ProFeeder can easily nest raw material to feed a pneumatic vise in our aluminum framed “CNC mill”. Additionally the Larco safety mat demonstrated how the robot arm can easily be programmed to slow mode when a person steps on the mat. The Siemens SIDOOR control system opens and closes the door with signals from the robot controller and also includes built-in safety.
If you have questions or would like to learn more about PCC’s robotic machine tending solutions, complete the form below and we will be in touch shortly.

Ever been in one of those situations where you wished you just had a ‘pause’ button? Accidents on the plant floor can cause irreparable damage to equipment and personnel that can adversely affect your company’s productivity, profitability and safety.
Thank you to everyone who attended PCC’s 2018 Oktoberfest – Tap into Technology Event! This year we moved Oktoberfest from our Germantown headquarters to the more spacious Washington County Fair Park and Conference Center in West Bend, WI.
The new location gave us the opportunity expand our Automation Fair showcase, offer additional training rooms and bring in much larger displays, including PCC’s Robotic Machine Tending Solution. Siemens was able to drive their “Driving the Digital Enterprise” showcase inside the venue. Wago’s updated ‘Innovations in Action’ mobile showcase was also on display inside the Automation Fair. We had over 35 technical seminars and workshops for attendees to choose from in addition to our Keynote session on Digitalization presented by Chad Shaffer of Siemens.
At 4pm once all the training sessions were completed, we tapped into the beer and all attendees were given our memorable Oktoberfest steins. The Oktoberfest reception was capped off with raffle prize drawings, favorite Milwaukee Pretzel Company pretzels, cornhole tournament and of course hammerschlagen.
We are very pleased to have spent a fun day of education, product knowledge discussions, training and sharing industry insights with you. PCC plans to continue to grow this event and provide valuable training and education in the years to come. We have set a tentative date for Oktoberfest next year on October 17, 2019.
If you have any feedback regarding this year’s event, please feel free to reach out. If you’d like to request the presentations, please contact [email protected]
