US Department of Homeland Security to speak on Cyber Security at PCC’s Oktoberfest

We’re excited to announce we’ve added a new session to our Oktoberfest seminar line-up.  Drew Batten of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security will be presenting “Cyber Attacks on Critical Infrastructure: CISA’s Hands-On Experience and Insights.”

Analyst, Industrial Control Systems, Hunt and Incident Response Team, National Cybersecurity and Communications Integration Center
Drew Batten is an Industrial Control Systems Incident Response Analyst with the Department of Homeland Security Hunt and Incident Response Team (HIRT) within the National Cybersecurity and Communications Integration Center (NCCIC). He is also an officer of the International Information System Security Certification Consortium, or (ISC)² Idaho chapter and a Cyber Warfare Operations Officer with the Air National Guard.
Prior to joining HIRT, he worked for the Industrial Control Systems Computer Emergency Response Team, the National Information Assurance Training and Education Center and the United States Air Force. A dedicated cybersecurity professional, Drew brings experience in several complementary roles including training, cyber surety, research, communications security, cryptography management, incident response, project management, network architecture design and review, risk management, vulnerability assessment, malware analysis, host based forensics, digital media analysis, memory forensics, and network analysis. His skill set and capabilities are foundational assets to NCCIC operations.
Drew is a Certified Information Systems Security Professional, Systems Security Certified Practitioner, GIAC Certified Industrial Control Systems Security Professional and holds several other cyber certifications. He holds a BBA in Computer Information Systems and an MBA with emphasis in Information Assurance.

What to Expect at PCC’s 2019 Oktoberfest

You may be a PCC Oktoberfest veteran, or perhaps you’re new to our annual event. Either way, you might be wondering what you can expect from this year’s event.  We’ve put together this short event overview to help: 
What’s Happening? PCC’s Oktoberfest – Tap into Technology is a daylong event focused on solutions and technologies in industrial automation and electrical control.  This information is delivered to attendees through 25+ seminars and hands-on workshops, an Automation Fair with over 45 vendor technologies showcased, a Tech Café where you can test drive a wide variety of solutions and good old fashioned networking with over 200 of your industry peers.    
Who Should Attend? (You should, but we’ll tell you why) There is no cost to attend and the event is guaranteed to provide something of value from entry-level engineers to engineering managers and CEOs in the manufacturing industry.  Our partners bring a broad range of experience from a wide range of industries, including converting, printing, automotive, material handling, food and beverage, robotics, and much more.  If you’re not satisfied we’ll buy you a beer at the end of the day (or a soda for our non-drinking friends.)
Where and when is this thing? In its 7th year this year’s event will be held on October 24 at the Washington County Park Fair and Conference Center which is about 30 mins from Milwaukee and 1 hour from Appleton, with easy access right off US 45 and plenty of parking.  Come for the whole day, an hour, or for as long as your schedule permits. 
Fun Highlights:New for 2019, we’ll have fun Virtual Reality experiences for you to play with in the afternoon. What are the benefits of a Cobot enabled Robotic Machine Tending (RMT) solution?

Are you a machine shop owner who’s been considering automating your machine shop, but still have questions?  We’ve outlined a few of the benefits of automating your machine tending solution with collaborative robots.
Benefits:

Return on Investment: The PCC RMT solution is cost effective with an ROI of 1 year being typical.  Depending on size and the level of integration a turn-key out the door system ranges from $50K to $90K.
Flexibility: Unlike traditional industrial robot based solutions, the RMT is extremely flexible and can be repurposed quickly. The whole system can be moved to another machining center on a pallet jack and within hours be up and running a new job.
Programming: The deliverable of the turn-key system is training on the programing tool for the system. The solution has been designed so that no future programing will be required from PCC in order to create or modify programs.
Safety: Cobots are designed to work in close proximity with human counterparts. Because the speed and force is limited by design along with built in safety features, the level of safety gating can be reduced or all together eliminated.
Implementation: Although there are many variables that could impact the turn-key delivery of an RMT solution, we are talking days, not months, to have a system up and running providing an even quicker ROI.
