Communicate Statuses Using Indicator Lights From Banner Engineering

Dynamic indicator lights are an effective way to communicate machine statuses clearly and quickly
Indicator lights have long been the visual language of machines. However, traditional indicators are limited—typically offering 3-5 colors to represent a wide range of statuses. Banner Engineering’s programmable RGB indicators let you choose from a wider variety of colors and change them as needed. Many RGB indicators also come with pre-defined animations and advanced functions to expand indication possibilities and represent active machine statuses.

Dynamic statuses are machine or process conditions that are often challenging to convey with a traditional solid color or flashing light.  Examples include machine warmup state, transitional states, take time remaining, fill level, and more.
Advanced indication requires a broader spectrum of color options. More colors allow each status or assembly step to have a unique indication from other steps, eliminating confusion and speeding up interpretation of the signals.
Additional colors and animations also communicate advanced states visually and intuitively for operators and supervisors alike.  They add nuance to the visual language of your machines, conveying more status information at a glance compared to traditional indicators.

Measuring Inductive Sensor with IO-Link

IO-Link and voltage output enables different application scenarios
Turck’s inductive sensors perform measuring tasks via the 0…10 V or 2…10 V voltage output or the IO-Link process data. The sensors can also be used as data suppliers for industrial 4.0 applications such as predictive maintenance thanks to IO-Link 1.1 COM 2.

Key Benefits:

IO-Link output and voltage output plus adjustable measuring range ensure universal usage
Simple configuration and communication via IO-Link 1.1
Reduced Downtimes: Diagnostic functions enable Industry 4.0 applications such as predictive maintenance
Internal temperature compensation and linearization ensure that the devices are highly temperature insensitive and highly accurate

The sensors offer 12-bit resolution across the measuring range as well as a variety of functions and parameterization options. In addition to freely adjusting the measuring range, the user can also change the behavior of the switching bit in the process data and the physical switching output in SIO mode, enabling switching functions such as switching windows or adjustable hysteresis.

Keep Employees Safe Using Wire Crafters Separation Panels

Employee Social Distancing Is Now Possible In Facilities of All Sizes
Not all manufacturing facilities have the space or capabilities for their employees to follow “Social Distancing” practices. That’s why Wire Crafters developed Separation Panels which allow for employees who must be in close proximity to each other to stay protected behind a clear polycarbonate window. This protects employees from spreading respiratory droplets without impeding work flow vision or communication.

How To – Securely Access Manufacturing Systems Remotely With Ewon

Remotely access manufacturing facilities to monitor and adjust programming processes.
This tech note is focused on configuring secure remote access to an individual IP Address located on the LAN or protected side of an Ewon unit.

The Ewon hardware unit together with the eCatcher software utility and the Talk2M cloud account, establishes a VPN tunnel allowing someone located remotely from the manufacturing facility to access PLCs, HMIs, Drives, etc. on a machine or production line to monitor and make programming modifications to the process. Current facility equipment without secure remote access can add Ewon units to allow Maintenance and Engineering Staff, along with OEMs, Machine Builders, and System Integrators, to remotely access, diagnose, and service the machines. On the LAN side of an Ewon unit could be several connected Ethernet devices. An OEM or Machine Builder with a large service team may divide their team into groups that can only access certain Ewon units in the Talk2M account for which they have knowledge and competencies of the machines.

Application – Safety with Active Optoelectronic Protective Devices

Safety light curtains and area scanners help by providing added protection for employees and equipment but first need a safety assessment of their own for proper protection. Properly defining the safety-related requirements allows for a complete risk assessment of the entire system.
This AOPD Safety System Specification document is an introduction to the selection and application of AOPD (Active Optoelectronic Protective Devices) and ESPE (Electro-Sensitive Protective Equipment), i.e., safety light curtains and area scanners. Discussed are considerations for selecting resolution, safety distances and muting and other characteristics of ESPE for safety-related applications. These characteristics are summarized for the many families of Banner Engineering light curtains to aid your selection process.
